FAMILY COURT SERVICES
SUPERIOR COURT COUNTY OF SAN DIEGO

If you have been ordered for Mediation in a Child Custody/Visitation Matter, please be aware of the following information:

California law requires parties of a child custody/visitation dispute to participate in a mediation process with a court counselor prior to a formal court hearing.

The purpose of the mediation is to provide the family with the opportunity to deal with its individual family situation and to develop its own plans regarding the BEST INTERESTS OF THE CHILDREN in the family reorganization.

**If you are scheduled for an Order to Show Cause Hearing, or any other hearing regarding child custody or visitation, IT IS MANDATORY THAT A MEDIATION CONFERENCE BE SET WITH OUR STAFF PRIOR TO THE COURT HEARING.

The locations of our mediation offices are as follows:

PLEASE NOTE: FCS San Diego office provides an orientation and parents support group on Thursday evenings at 7:00 p.m. At that meeting, you will be given information as to the services of the Court pertaining to the BEST INTERESTS of children going through divorce.

Divorce and child custody arguments are very stressful. We hope through the efforts of the offices of Family Court Services that we may assist your family through the process.

Unless requested by the office of FCS or ordered by the Court, please do not bring your children under the age of 6 to the Mediation Conference.
